A SNAP application can be picked up at the Transit Office or one can be mailed to you. A completed application should be returned to the Transit Office in person or mailed to:

Tar River Transit
PO Box 1180
Rocky Mount, North Carolina 27802

In order to qualify for the half-fare, individuals need to complete the SNAP application. The application must also be completed and signed by a medical professional who is familiar with the individual. The completed application should be returned to Tar River Transit.

The Transit Administrator will review the application to determine eligibility. Once the applicant is approved for the SNAP program, an approval packet will be sent to the passenger which will include a SNAP Identification card.

This card will allow the passenger to ride for half fare. If the Transit Administrator determines that the individual is not eligible for the SNAP program, a denial letter is sent to the applicant.

The applicant has thirty (30) days from receipt of the letter to appeal the decision to the City Engineering Department Head who is responsible for oversight of Tar River Transit. The City Engineering Department Head's decision is final.

The Transit Office is located at 100 Coastline Street (Downtown Train Station), on the 3rd floor in Suite 315.
Our phone number is (252) 972-1174.
